Not So Shy John 9/19/10 Music Therapy
September 19, 2010
Radio therapy. Understand that the songs you see played are interspersed with various commentary; today begins with commentary on this week's news, that one out of every seven Americans is "under the poverty level" of income. I see a certain psychological state that accompanies the state of a lower (or nonexistent) income. More on that, but I played The Red Devils, Automatic, ShyJohn, Nothin' In The World, and a reading, "Wrong Love", People Are Strange snippet, Jay Howard's, Red Rooster snippet, Jay Howard and ShyJohn on harp,Skate or Die, Teenage Bottlerocket, Walk Like an Egyption, by the Bangles, Sacred Reich, Sweetleaf, also by The String Quartet.
Next set, Goin' to the Church, Red Devils, then an interesting study, of Devil Woman, written and done first by Lester Butler, and then by Bruce Willis, off of YouTube. Then, a kind of walk in time and the real therapy session starts. Spirit in the Sky, Norman Greenbaum. War Pigs, Ozzy, Honky Tonk Women, Pat Benetar and company, Free Money, Patti Smith, and Work Song, Paul Butterfield. Paul Young, Walkin by Myself, Pearl Jam, Life Wasted, Peggy Lee, Fever, and The Best is Yet to Come.
Pickin on Santana does Black Magic Woman, bluegrass style. I slip in A Pirate's Life For Me, by The Pirates of the Caribbean, and then I played a single given to me by the beautiful Dee Dee Corona, Come On! I like that patriotic stuff, if it's done right, with heart. As Dee Dee was compared to Wendy O Williams, by Zed here in the studio, I put on Stand By Your Man, done metal by Wendy and Lenny of Motorhead, and The Plasmatics doing I Love Sex. Followed that with Poison doing Once Bitten, Twice Shy.
Then, in honor of Oktoberfest, I found a very quiet version of Ray Davies doing Oh! Demon Alcohol, and an Ozzy song of the same name, that's a different song. Had to do Sue Jack Daniels, Reverend Horton Heat, and Liquor, Beer and Wine. Then, I had a lapse, and started this Polkacide song, The Weiner Dog Polka....how embarrassing! So, anyway, Then, Flogging Molly does Every Dog Has It's Day, then Jet'Eme, by some French people.
A Frank Zappa set, Honey, Don't You Want a Man Like Me?, Wowie Zowie, More Trouble Comin' Every Day, and then, even More Trouble Comin' Every Day, the original, and the Live at the Roxy in '74, How Could I Be Such a Fool? Frank asks a lot of Questions. Then, a visit to the Hank Williamses, We Don't Use The "F" Word in Country, Jr., and then two from III, Go Fuck You (if you don't like our Hillbilly sound), and Pop Country Really Sucks, and, so you don't think I'm a Negative Nelly, I played Miley Sirus doing Zip A Dee Doo Dah, and Jerry Murad's Harmonicats, Music To Watch Girls By. Whiew!
