About The Radio Project

The Kill Radio Collective was formed out of the Los Angeles Independent Media Center. For a more detailed description of our mission and background, please see our documentation. We have used www.radio4all.net software to create a database of material to expand our available programming. Kill Radio came together from radio journalists and cyber-activists to provide ourselves with the means to share our radio programs via the Internet. Our goal is to support and expand the movement for democratic communications worldwide. We exist to be an alternative to the corporate and government media which do not serve struggles for liberty, justice and peace, nor enable the free expression of creativity. The archived material is available to anyone who wants it free of charge.

We welcome submissions from all stations and independent producers in the service of these goals. All material is donated by its producers who are solely responsible for its content.

How It Works

This archive is designed to provide compressed audio files which can be downloaded to your computer's hard disk and then converted to tape for broadcast. The Radio Project Archive uses the MPEG audio compression system for its files. We have determined, after much testing, that this format delivers the best possible quality with the lowest possible file size and has free software available for most computer systems. You will need MPEG software on your computer in order to send and receive files.

Files on the radio project can also be "streamed" - audited while downloading - with the appropriate MPEG audio player. As our files are broadcast quality, and therefore larger than is usual, they will require high modem speeds for smooth listening. However, even on a slower modem, this function gives you the ability to hear a bit of the program so you can decide if you wish to download it.

Links to software can be found in the Software Tools section, and more complete instructions for uploading and downloading audio are in the Instructions section.

We provide technical support via the Radio Project mailing list, radio@tao.ca and are happy to help you with any questions or problems you may have.
